WHY JOIN COOL?

1. For our children. And their children. Without proper management today, future generations will not experience the beauty, the mystery, the bounty, or the fun of the wild ocean. Supporting healthy ocean policies and COOL’s education efforts means leaving a legacy of marine conservation for tomorrow’s divers and other ocean enthusiasts.

2. To give something back. The oceans provide people around the world with food, energy, transportation, and natural resources. As divers, we enjoy the extra benefits of experiencing the ocean’s wonders beneath the surface. Divers are the natural stewards of the ocean because we know first-hand the problems facing marine ecosystems and can inspire others to be part of lasting solutions.

3. Because divers do make a difference. Ocean health is directly related to the policies put in place to manage them. Those policies are shaped by leaders we choose to make these decisions, leaders who listen to their constituents. Divers are an important constituency that can effect monumental change as a unified group.

4. To give voice to a growing concern. Many people are affected by declining ocean health, though few take action toward positive change. As evidenced in the recent publication of separate reports by the Pew and U.S. Ocean Commissions, only by collaborative efforts between government, the private sector, and citizen groups can we stave off the impending crisis in our oceans. COOL brings these groups together to speak up as one voice for protecting ocean resources.
