Robert Mazurek joined Pew in November 2011 to manage the Global Ocean Legacy project, which works to create large no-take marine reserves around the world. Mazurek is responsible for outreach and project management.

Mazurek has 10 years’ experience leading collaborations with stakeholders, experts, and government officials in the creation of protected area management plans. He also has 20 years’ experience in science communications, focused on educating decision makers and the public about marine conservation. Recently, Robert advised the Resources Legacy Fund Foundation and the California Department of Fish and Game in the implementation of California’s Marine Life Protection Act. Robert was also the Management Plan Coordinator for the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve and helped the Monterey Bay Aquarium design and launch their Seafood Watch Program.   

Mazurek holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Illinois State University.
